I will be attending SUNY Stony Brook this fall (Master's program in clarinet performance). I decided to apply and attend Stony Brook because of Mr. Daniel Gilbert, who is the clarinet professor there, but other then that I am pretty clueless about this school. I was wandering if any one out there can give some insights to the school, area, and other information that might be useful. Thanks in advance.
Good Times!

Stony Brook is on Long Island, not too far from NYC. I attended a SUNY school about the same distance from the city (Purchase, which is further North). Going to school that close to NYC is a blast. Stony Brook is one of SUNY's main university centers (the others being Albany, Buffalo and one other I can't think of at the moment). It's a huge school, beautiful campus, and academically is quite solid. My Dad is a retired SUNY music professor and has always had good things to say about their music department. That's about all I know.

Congrats---its a great area---you can easily get to New York City with all that it has to offer. You are also close to the Hamptons, where, on a quiet day, you can hear the beautiful sounds of a wonderful clarinetist and active bulletin board member.
