I remember reading that someone has a "tweak" that they do to Selmer C* bass clarinet mouthpieces that is supposed to be very successful. I'm getting a new mouthpiece to replace my C*, which makes me willing to risk modifying the C*. Do any of you know who does the Famous C* Tweak, and what it is supposed to accomplish?

a number of people who do refacing do work on these as well. Check the sponsors of this site and resources for more names. I believe Clark Fobes mouthpiece may be a modified Selmer, but you would have to check with him for sure.

Experts like Clark Fobes, David Hite and Walter Grabner can be seen on the right column under mouthpieces...

I had a friend in college with me (who was in the army field band and just got his masters) reface my C* for bass. It's great! Plus he did it for free.

I've lived dangerously via moderately refacing OLD bass cl mps [plastic or HR] with some success. Using fine [or very-fine] SiC {emery} paper-cloth on a very flat surface, I first, by a couple of "swipes", smooth-flatten the table and see where the curvature-break begins. Then carefully, as evenly as possible, put a new curve on the lay, polish both table and lay via rubbing on newsprint on flat surface. Then try it, trying to remember what fault you wanted to improve!! My best mps are old crystal Pomarico GG's, a #3 [open] and a DS-refaced #1. Luck, Don

 Thanx, Mark, Don

Yep, I have walter grabner's CXBS and I can safely say it blows everything out in the under 500 dollar range out of the water. Look for my other posts about it about 1.5 years back... Search for Ted Donaldson or something :P
