Can someone tell me the authenticity of Chedeville mouthpieces.
I have one with just Ch.Chedeville Paris printed on the front closest to the cork and MO on the side no fancy designs either like I've seen on others.
I saw another with the C/C box and Ch.Chedeville Paris but it says "this is Signature of Ch. Chedeville Blank. So is mine an authentic Chedeville not a blank or copy. Mine is in excellent condition used once.
Please let me know if you have information. Thanks.

The big ques. is HOW WELL does it play.
From other info that I have read, REAL ones say qualitie superiore or something Frenchie
MO usually means medium open(--or a laxative) which may indicate a western market designation, and I would guess that a closed configuration would be more in line with what was used in orchestras in those days. If it IS for real, it may be worth refacing or showing it to someone like Richard Hawkins who has seen a lot of Ched. blanks.

From what I have been told, Chedevilles, may have a variety of markings, depending on the vintage. Talk to someone who has seen a lot of them, Chris Hill, Brad Behn, Lee Livengood, Tom Ridenour, Greg Smith, come to mind.

I find "something Frenchie" somewhat disparaging. Do we need it?

OOOOO you KNOW what French does to me, Morticia.......
Aw c'mon, beejay.....If I wanted to say something disparaging I would have.
I just cant spell au francais the way SB can. Frenchie is shorter than saying "something which was engraved onto the mouthpiece utilizing the French language"....Happy now?
Gee, I thought PC was back to meaning a type of computer. Now I guess I was wrong (ooops.....no offence to Mac users)
Signature time............
"Against stupidity the G_ds themselves contend in vain"
(from a book by Issac Asimov)
there, I even put a "_" instead of spelling out God, and I attributed the quote to an author. Now will someone complain that I used the pleural instead of monotheistic......or perhaps the atheists want equal time.

Hi,
Take a look inside your mouthpiece and look into the bore from the bottom of the mouthpiece and make sure the lay of the mouthpice is facing up.
The right wall of the tone chamber should come from the top to the bottom of the chamber with an ever so slight angle coming from top towards the right.
The left wall is usually straight down.
Hope this helps.

Never realized that personalities were such an important part of the answer to a question. I was always taught that the best answer was the shortest. A lot of wind on this page...

It probably is an authentic Chedeville of some vintage, but not all of the vintages were as good as others. The ones that I've seen with just a small signature and MO were not usually great ones "as is," but if yours plays well, then it doesn't matter what vintage or brand it is. A good mouthpiece is a good mouthpiece.

In response to Synonymous Botch:

I very much agree. Several years ago, maybe 5 or 6, I visited these boards back when they were sneezy.org. I posted an embouchure-related question and asked for some advice. At this time I was just starting to work hard at the clarinet and was very excited, eager, and motivated about all things music and clarinet. In return for my question, I got criticism for my misspellings of 'embouchure' (although one person was nice enough to address my question and offer advice). Many of the replies however were witty, thoroughly spell-checked, and unfriendly, so I did not return to sneezy.org (that is until just a few weeks ago). Having returned to these boards, it looks like this is a friendlier place that is welcoming to young, new, or uninformed posters. I'm glad it has changed.
