As to the comment of the tuttis in Vivaldi concerti: I think that is personal perference. For instance on more than one occasion in his recording of Vivaldi concerti, Alex Klein plays in the tuttis- though, I guess we shouldn't compare mere mortals to Alex Klein. It would seems strange to play to the tutti, like in the a minor concerto when the oboist plays the same material bars later, but this time developing the 'theme' or idea. The has become a performance practice now to leave out the tuttis, I wouldn't say that it is directly related to the resistance of modern day oboe reeds. Additionally it sounds more "soloistic" to make an entrance than to play with the back-up band.
