 Some older German oboes have tapered reed sockets which are fine for threaded staples, but with corked staples (or Legere reeds) you have to taper the cork. 
 
With an instrument as short as a musette, you have to make sure the reed goes in far enough so the Cs are in tune with each other - if the 2nd space C is flatter than low C, then you'll need to shorten the staple and also the reed if the top register C is flat.
