Unlike more seasoned players, I very seldom throw out a playing reed. The weather (and my playing) are both too variable. I also teach beginning oboe and having an old reed nearby to demonstrate how cutting a part of it changes the sound is valuable.
I'm also off work, and reed-cutting has become my best pasttime. So, I try to keep about 4-6 blanks on hand and tend to have about 3 'concert'-level reeds. I also have about 10-12 reeds in various stages of being completed.
Expect wildly different answers on this one.
