OK so ChrisP has helped you out on the model as you're over there in UK not here in North America, and echoing somewhat Dutchy's 'whoa there' what else do you need to know but don't know enough about oboes to ask yet? These questions to get you thinking more about it, and if you want to discuss anything here, welcome, welcome, we all love oboe stuff here :-)

are you new to music, or just new to oboe? this will impact your beginner's learning curve in one, other or both

how long a period of time do you have in mind to 'give oboe a go'?
do you have transferable musical instrument skills already?

what are your anticipated and realistic long-term prospects for playing-performing on oboe when you're really going at it?

are you psychologogically or financially prepared for the ongoing overhead expense of frequently replacing oboe reeds?

do you already have an oboe teacher in your sights and what does your oboe teacher have in mind as suitable oboe, preferred reeds, study method book and brand new beginner lesson plan?

does this teacher have a package student deal for you, such as rent-an-oboe and assistance providing you with reeds or renting reed-making tools and discount deals on consumable supplies, or are you expected to provide all of above on your own? Your oboe related suppliers are ... ?

will your family / loved ones mind your allegiance switch from quality time with them to intensive practice time with a wailing stick of wood (or plastic)?

are you prepared to practice regularly every day for months & months on end before you're sure you've made significant progress and like the results you're getting?

do you have enough time in your current lifestyle to schedule 'oboe stuff' -- it starts out small indeed, but escalates when you get into reed management, fixing, and making your own reeds on top of daily practice time, which in itself has to expand until you're capable of playing 'twice as long, twice as strong', by then you're into serious time management issues

... hope this gives you a glimpse at what you might be getting into :-)
