Hello,
I was wondering if there is a site or directory to find MM, PhD, etc dissertations about the clarinet? I enjoy reading about the clarinet and have read books by Rice, Hoeprich, etc, and would like to read more. However, I do not know how to find this literature--or if it is even available outside of library databases (which I cannot seem to be able to access online).
Thanks for your help!

I second worldcat.
You could also try searching the Library of Congress, Harvard Libraries, and the Bodlian Library.
If you search smaller libraries you will also find stuff. Look up the music libraries at conservatories. Peabody, Oberlin, Julliard, Curtis, Cleveland Institute, Eastman, Mannes (New School), New England Conservatory, Manhattan School, Royal Academy of Music, etc. Also big state schools like Michigan State. Most schools have a separate music library not contained in the main library.
All of the individual schools will have their own dissertations on file.
You can almost always search the catalogs of individual libraries online. They may have a separate database for dissertations, but in any case contacting the librarians should get you what you need. You might have to pay for them to send you a hard copy. If you can't access an online version of a dissertation from home, try your public library or local university library, they might have access. You can save it to a memory stick, print it, or email it to yourself. Just about any college or university library will allow you use the library as a reader if you ask. Dress in academic casual and ask for the reference or music librarian if you have to.

There's also:
American Musicological Society
http://www.ams-net.org/ddm/basicSearch.php
Proquest
http://www.proquest.com/products-services/dissertations/
If you're a student at a university, you can usually use a link from their website to access ProQuest. Look for their library page, and then research databases and find ProQuest however they have their databases setup.
If you're not a student, you can usually access it directly from a computer connected to their server (ie-library computers)
If this is confusing, let me know what school you are near, and I can usually find how to access their database information. I was a music librarian for a while. :-D

These are some dissertation sites I have used in the past, aside from Schools' sites.
