Hi there,

can somebody explain to me the differeces between this Buffet Elite line and their more common horns (R13, RC, Festival, Tosca, etc).
Does someone have a horn like this?
How it plays?

Thank you very much.

The principal clarinetist in the Icelandic symphony did play one over 10 years ago because they are thin walled(because of bore design I guess) and weight 20% less than Prestige clarinets because he has had some hand problems in the past. Well he stopped using them because he found them not to have enough meat to the tone specially in the low register so they would not project very well in a symphony hall. They had a went for the low E/B to bring the pitch up and the key was all they way from the register key and down much similar to what is available as an option on the Selmer Recital. They also had gold posts. No metal tenons or metal rings instead they had carbon fiber rings a think.

I believe the reason they stopped making them was because they had a lot of complaints about the projection and also the price dropped down when the Tosca was introduced.

You can check them out on that auction site not to be mentioned.

I tried one out once when they were still making them. I wasn't very impressed with the sound--it didn't seem to be any improvement over my R13. It didn't seem worth the high price tag.

And not that it matters a whole lot, but I also think metal rings look nicer than the black carbon fiber ones they had on the Elite.

One of the praises I've heard from Tosca players are that they have projection like no other clarinets so go figure why Elite faded away after the Tosca was introduced.
