Hi! I just got accepted into my province's youth orchestra and will now have occasion to use my A clarinet. The thing is, my double case is dreadful. It holds two clarinets, and that's it. No reed case, no swabs, other equipment, or anything. So I would really like to buy a messenger bag-style thing to carry the case, equipment, and music around in. My teacher suggested I try to find one that's insulated, but there is of course that price problem... Does anyone know of a nice gig bag thingy that's reasonably priced, or suggestions for a laptop bag or something. The case is 17 inches X 12 X 5, so it doesn't quite fit into a standard laptop bag. It's a bit annoying....

That auction site that we can not mention also gets them, sometimes used, at even lower prices.
You need to specify attache type vs. pouchette.
I agree, by the time you toss in a tuner, metronome, reedcase, clipper, glass plate, sandpaper, and hopefully a dozen or so custom barrels![[wink]](http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/smileys/smilie3.gif) , plus your music, taint much space left for your lunch...so gig bags are a great repository.

Altieri bags (I have one) are terrific---highly durable and well worth the cost. But you may not want to pay $100 or more to buy one. Mine is insulated and has two outside zip pockets for music, reeds, swabs, etc.
You might also look at Pro-Tec gig bags on line. You'll find some for a good deal less.

Thanks everyone! The Altieri bags look great, but I don't know if I'd be able to afford one. The Olathe cover is a bit closer to what I could afford, but what's the difference between attache and pouchette?
Interesting... I think my computer has developed psychic powers. It says I'm in Aylesford, when in fact I am in Dartmouth. I'll be in Aylesford next week, though...

It is the type of case you are currently using.
Attache is like a solid-sided briefcase, while pouchette is more form fitted, formerly termed "French style"
The pouchette case typically is slimmer and from the outside you can see where the bells fit....the case flares out.
The attache is rectangular, no curves. It has squared corners, often covered with brass corner protectors.

Some of the others, such as the Business Deluxe and others are bigger than that. Being a soft material they are pretty flexible.

Another possible solution....you can forget about trying to find a cover and just get a brand new Protec double case. They are pretty well insulated and have lots of room for extra stuff. They are only $95 from wwbw.com. Not sure what the shipping cost would be to Canada though.

How about a back pack? IMO it's the most comfortable. That's what I used in the past when I used to need only my soprano clarinet sometimes, but also a bunch of other things that wouldn't fit into the clarinet case (like sheet music, etc).
