 The Clarinetist and Mahler

Do most modern clarinetists approach Mahler with Buffet clarinets and closed mouthpieces? Are German clarinets (say in the 9th symphony) more appropriate?

I'd put in the vote for the German Clarinets for that style of playing, but it's a major shift from the french system so it's not just a matter of bringing another clarinet to the gig.

I'm not sure that closed mouthpieces are mutually exclusive to French clarinets. It is my understanding that German mouthpieces have a smaller tip opening than French.
