 playing horn improves embouchure

Hello!

For those of you who didn't get to see my post about wether playing French Horn would affect my Bass Clarinet playing, here it is in a nutshell: I am able to play in two bands, on in which I am the only bass and the other where there are two basses already. My director wanted me to play French Horn for that one.

I got mixed opinions on wether this would be negative or positive, so I decided to give it a shot. After about two weeks of playing and enjoying the beautiful sound and challenge, my bass clarinet embouchure actually improved.

Before I was unable to curl in my top lip on the mouthpiece since I have thin lips, now I can. My stamina when playing the bass has improved immensely. I don't get tired as easily anymore and my lips don't start frowning and biting after an hour of rigorous practice.

I know this is a very controversial issue, but playing both a brass and woodwind instrument has enhanced my playing tremendously.

8 hour rehersals, here I come!

And then you become proficient on the French Horn and it demands more time from you which you have been spending with your clarinet...

The clarinet unaware that you are cheating on it will go on pretending nothing is happening until it realizes what is happening and starts behaving erratically. Not wanting to let you spend as much time out as you have been growing accustomed to.

Then you try to make up with your clarinet and then Frenchy starts getting upset.

One day you and your clarinet just will not come to terms and you may find another clarinet that is much more accepting of your polyamourous affairs.

:)

Regards,
Stephen
