Hi everyone,
I thought I'd ask about both items in a single thread. I just purchased a Ferrillo gouger & planer, and now I just need a guillotine and dial indicator so I can process cane with my own equipment. More expenses.. woo!
Any recommendations for a guillotine (for chopping cane to length... not tip clipping)? Why are they so expensive? I've seen recommendations for the Reeds 'n Stuff guillotine, available for $325 at Forrests. Is there something that makes this a superior machine?
And about dial indicators... I'm interested in purchasing a handheld one for measuring gouged cane, not finished reeds. I've found reasonably priced dial indicators from industrial supply shops. I'm planning on buying one of those and replacing the contact points with something more suitable for measuring cane. Any input on what kinds of tips give the most precise/ localized readings? Ballpoint, conical, flat, needle, etc.
Thanks in advance!
