Hey all! Norwegian oboist here. I´ve been reading almost everything on this forum now and decided to jump in with some information about the mysterious Dupin oboe. I have one myself, I bought it in 2006 from a pro here in Oslo. It was build in 1996 and have i tiny crack between the trill-holes(surprise...). It is said to be one of the best Dupins in Norway right now.
It´s not easy to get your hans on a used one, as my teacher said: "Once your have one, most pros will play it till its dead, and buy a new one, using the old as reserve". My oboe was picked out by the solo oboist in Bergen Philharmonic to one of his students and she sold it when she found an extraordinary Yamaha oboe she still uses. The scale is incredibly even and it is "reed friendly". The sound is not as dark as the Marigaux I have tried. It is closer to Frank and Mönnig.
For me it is a perfect match after starting on a Howarth S20C (no 3rd octave key), "graduating" to a S5(also Howarth, both my school bands) before buying my first oboe, a used Marigaux 901 automatic. Marigaux is the standard in Norway, but most music students invest in a Dupin, most like students in the US are told to "upgrade" to a Loree (as I have learned here).
