I'm a regular poster on the UK ABRSM forum and have just received a cry for help:

Brand new Cor Anglais (Howarths S40c) arrived today. The C doesn't play properly. It's not stable sort of fades to another note. Spoke to Howarths and they said it's something that's happened in transit. It's either a loose screw or a spring. Daughter has tried loosening and tightening the screws close by but it doesn't cure it. We can't see a spring out of place.
Howarths solution to take it back to the shop in London (we're in Manchester) or to take it to Stoke. Trying to avoid having to do that or posting in back which I don't fancy with the postal strikes taking place.
Appreciate that I probably haven't described very well what's happening.
Any advice welcome.
