Hi,
Since I bought my new micrometer I have been routinely measuring my gouged cane after I gouge.
To my surprise I found variability in the gouge.
It isn't the setup -rather, I discovered if the cane is not pretty straight and flat - then the gouge will be affected by a curve, bend, twist etc, in the cane ............... even if is very small.
So now I know that I can control another variable in reed making - consistent gouge of cane!
MY MOTTO: WHEN IN DOUBT- ALWAYS THROW OUT - along the reed making process - from the splitting of the tubes to the first scraps.........
