Hello everyone,
About 6 weeks ago while stringing some lights between trees in my garden, I fell and smashed my knee, leg and wrist. [Tibia plateau fracture - TPF, and a Distal Radial fracture in my wrist.] After hospitalization and several surgeries to insert plates and screws into both my leg and my wrist I am back home and on the mend. Immediately after the surgery I was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism (a blockage somewhere in my lung blood-supply) and so I am now taking rat-poison (coumadin) for six months, and my choice of pain-meds is very limited.
The leg/knee injury is the most debilitating, of course, since I can put no weight on it for at least another month. However, the wrist bandages and brace are now off and I am doing PT to restore range of motion, agility and strength to my right wrist. I suppose that touch-typing can be viewed as a type of occupational therapy which is why this post is so long (though if you've been on this board for a while you'll know I tend to long posts anyway ).
Has anyone here had a similar injury? How long till you were playing again?
When I try the piano my wrist cramps up, so I am scared to touch my oboe in case I drop it. Any aids you used? Should I use a loose neck-strap for security?
Any help, war-stories etc. gratefully received,
J.
