Hi all,
I am in a bit of a predicamate. The reeds which I have been purchasing (and adjusting slightly) which have provided the exact response and tone that I want, have ceased to be available for online sale. I suppose whoever was making them couldn't keep up with the demand. The type of reed was sold at Midwest Music Imports and was called the "Agnew". It is basically a long reed, with a long scrape. The tone was very dark and warm, and the pitch was very accurate and stable. My old Agnews are too old now, and my "sound" is sadly disappearing. I need to find a reed which is a similar as possible to the Agnew. My reed-making skills are not yet to the point that I can get all the features out of a reed made from scratch by me, and I would prefer not to have to spend loads of money on reeds which are far from what I want. Can any of you suggest a reed maker which I could buy from which would most likely have the characteristics I am looking for? I am really desperate, as I am auditioning for the principle oboe spot in my college's orchestra this Fall.
Thanks!
JCH
