I noticed that Justin O'Dell is no longer listed on the faculty at Michigan State University. Does anyone know where he went? Is he being replaced at MSU?

I contacted a well known friend of mine who is a Professor of Clarinet who knows Justin. He was not rehired by Michigan State University. I guess MSU would officially say that he was not granted tenure. I suspected that when he didn't respond to an e-mail and when I saw that MSU had hired two new clarinet faculty.

What you experienced was beyond reproach and I (and I'm sure everyone else reading this) am so very sorry this happened to you.
I think though the main situation was the "sexual harassment" that should have immediately been brought to the attention of the school (top administrators of human resources and those that are tasked with being watchdogs for inappropriate behavior). Mr. O'Dell's actions are also inexcusable but they are harder to pin down since he may have allowed himself to be swayed by "testimony" from the harasser.
That all said I would, unfortunately further say that the particulars of this matter goes beyond what is appropriate for a public forum such as this. There may even be legal exposure for placing such statements under the purview of the general masses.
I hope your career in music goes MUCH smoother from here forward.

I have taken your advice and edited the post, even though I fundamentally disagree and believe you are coming from a very misguided place.
A professors conduct is nothing to sweep under the rug, especially when this person is teaching within an academic institution. This is someone who was supposed to protect their students and provide them with a place to learn and grow. When a woman shares a true account of something that occurred under a professor, like the one I did, it’s not fair to tell them to be quiet, that where or how they have shared is not the place or the time for it, encouraged to be silent, or told that it is inappropriate.
Unfortunately this is another case of a man telling a woman to be quiet.
As far as you mentioning legal repercussions, he ruined a students future. I don’t know if you are trying to suggest libel, but just to educate you a little further here, libel is when someone spreads something false about someone else and that someone else is harmed professionally or financially by false allegations that have absolutely no basis or truth to them, whatsoever.
Justin O’Dell knows that everything I shared above and was then told to be quiet about was accurate and true.
You should never suggest to someone sharing a very relevant account that they need to feel embarrassed, should be quiet, or that how they have decided to share an account is inappropriate. That is how we got to this place in this world where things like this were swept under the rug. Why would you ever want someone to feel embarrassed about something someone else failed to do, or did do when they were in a position of power and had a responsibility to their students to provide a place to feel safe to learn and grow as a musician?
🤦🏼♀️
As far as we’ve come, we still have much further to go and I hope you can keep an open mind about how difficult it is to be a woman in a man’s world when things like this just continue to repeat.

Much like blaming the victim of harassment, that would be awful as you say. That was not my intent. But it is one thing for the persons involved to KNOW what they did and another for them to be proven to be wrong through reporting, investigation and litigation. I think the "Me Too" movement is a great step forward and proves things have gotten better over the years. I only hope to say to any one else out there to pursue justice in their own cases immediately and effectively though the institutions that will HELP. There is room for standing on s soap box, however, just getting the word out to the general public is no guarantee of a successful outcome.
Sorry it sounded like I am the problem

I’m 99% sure that Justin is not in Music anymore at all.
Found him on Facebook, different name, different career- but for sure same guy.
Not my goal to out him, but so you know at least it’s not going on with vulnerable students anymore. Legally he should have been crushed for it.
As a parent, I’d certainly have taken action…….. and there’s no “shut up” in my vocabulary.
