I recently ordered a noblissima clarinet from tom ridenour. i'ts really nice instrument but the case that it comes with is, although durable, really ugly. I'm interested in buying a casee for under $100.
I'm thinking on investing on a protec slim case but i do not like how the inside is blue. I also see that there s a leblanc bliss case on ebay for around $40. I also contacted Ted Ridenour said their hard shell cases in their bc576 and libertas are $60. Which one do you think i should get? Do you guys have better options?

I have a Protec slimline clarinet case I bought 3 years or so ago. I use it daily. The storage compartment is great, and allows me to put a LOT of stuff in there. However, it has one significant flaw, that you'll have to decide if/how much of an issue it is. Especially if you have ANYTHING in the storage compartment, when you open the case, especially on your lap, to assemble or swab and put away your horn, the case is VERY tippy in your lap. I've learned to deal by moving a stand close enough that it supports the open lid. It is ALWAYS an annoyance. Just a question of how much, and how much it would be to you.
I do like how much it carries, and the light weight, and I've spent the money, so I deal. If I had it to do over, I might spend a little more money on one of the larger Protecs.

The ProTec Carry-All does do well, but is heavy as a box of bricks. A better ProTec is the LUX Case/messenger bag. Holds a lot, but all the stuff is below the case, doesn't tip over, very portable and light!

Reed and Squeak seems to have some very lightweight yet well-designed cases, I just wish they were easier to get in the US.

Hmm Reed and squeak cases look really good. I'm interested in getting one. Does anyone have any first hand experience with it?

My case (for an R-13) is the at-least-10-yr-old version of the basic wood, now-$65, case sold by Woodwind and Brasswind. It's just a black box, but it holds the clarinet, mouthpiece, a couple of barrels, neckstrap, reeds and tuner. For me, function is more important than form.

I just recently bought a Protec MAX case, which is anything but! Very slim and light, stands up open without tipping, holds two barrels with a couple outside pockets for miscellaneous, lots of choice of colors, but black inside. under $60 at Amazon

I've purchased cases (similar to the smaller nylon Protec cases) from a local music dealer ... apparently a store branded case called "Accent". Only about 45 bucks. Lots of storage and light weight. The workman ship is pretty good nowadays, on even cheap cases.
The original factory cases with my clarinets are too little to carry a good amount of stuff. The old Selmer Series 10 had a decent size case ... but they are no more ...
I usually carry at least 3 barrels and MPs with ligatures and caps, a small Korg tuner, a couple of reed cases, cigarette papers, screwdriver, cork grease, fingernail polish (emergency repairs), MP patches, spare reading glasses, cough drops, aspirin, candy, swab, polishing cloth, cotton swabs, neck strap, rubber bands, rag and key oil ... Just won't fit in most factory supplied cases.
Leave the factory cases at home, for when you want to resale or trade-in.
If I had a pair of Divines, I'd do the same.
Tom

I'd like to find a double B-flat and a B-flat/E-flat double case ... without getting one custom made ...

Tom, check out Wiseman cases online and they will most likely have double case. They have lots and lots of double cases and they probably have a bb and eb/bb double case (I know they make a double Bb and A case). The Wiseman cases are expensive but are also top quailty and probably some of the cheapest non custom.

Ive read good things recently about gator cases. They're cheap and won't last forever, but if you're looking for a decent case to last years, is look into them.
