 2013 Donation Drive
Author: Mark Charette

I've rented a couple new servers and moved things around to keep this service running smoothly ... so it's that time again. I avoided the fund-raising as long as I could.

If you have some spare pounds, dollars, yen, lira, won, baht, RMB, francs, euros, pesos, or other currency that's convertible - consider supporting one of your favorite websites. You'll benefit everyone here, and I'll be happy. How good is that? :)

Thanks for all the support over the years. Someday I'll retire and get this thing done right, but in the meantime, I'll keep it running. I think it's been almost 15 years as a BBoard already and I expect it to be around for a long time in the future.

Just click on those ugly red buttons at the top.

Last year I was #1. This year I'm only #5.

Everybody pitch in. This is the best place on the web.

IMHO you're getting it right already! Glad to help!

I should be in the top 20 of this list. Thanks for the service, Mark and Glenn, and thanks to all the folks who contribute information, as well as cash!

It is always nice to be first in something clarinet but especially to be the first to support this wonderful forum. Thanks to Mark and GBK for their work to bring it to us. If you are here, support the Board so it does not take as long as last time to get to 200.

Roger

As has been mentioned before, the bulletin board exists because of you, your many contributions, ideas, questions (yes... we do read and approve each and every posting) and the role it plays in the clarinet community.

Many hours of work take place behind the scenes and just a small contribution will help to keep this vital resource healthy for another year - and many more to come.

Please contribute what you can... Thanks

...GBK

How many people have posted here since the last request? 200? 500? Pretty much every request gets a response, provided by the good will of professional players and teachers.

Nearly everyone can afford a small donation. Give until it hurts a little! I do. So should you.

Mark,

Would you tell us the annual operating budget for the Clarinet BB?

I'd like to scale my contribution to the costs and realized that I have no idea what those would be --even neglecting your huge personal contribution.

Between $300 and $400/mo. for everything - servers, bandwidth, backups.

Just a reminder ... it's still going on!!! There are actually a few more donations that arrived - I was on a business trip and just looked at accumulated mail late last night. I'll be putting up a few this evening.

Here's the link if you missed it at the top:

Looks like you have 60 donors, so far. That's encouraging!

Another reminder ...

The drive seems to have stalled with 79 donations. I know that there are a few thousand different readers from around the world and over a millions hits a month. A few dollars means a lot in keeping the boards running under that weight.

TO: Everyone who has posted or responded to a query on the first screen of messages. And also the second.

The board is for you. Many professional players and teachers, myself included, would charge you a handsome fee for a private lesson. We're donating our experience for your benefit.

Please step up and make a contribution, no matter how small.

Ken Shaw

P.S. I need the board as much as you do. If I had the money, I would pay all the expenses myself. Unfortunately, I'm not a billionaire. If you want my advice, please give something.

K.S.

Yes, Ken is accurate in his assessment of users who refrain from donating.

He and I have discussed this to a small degree. What, as I can recall, has not bee touched up is the FREE....FREE....F R E E use of the classifieds.

A user joins the BB only to post a for sale item. They sell it for $1500, 2,000 or 2,500 or more............at no fees to them...and then when donation time comes around, do not even donate $10..........less than 1% of the monies they realized.

They should sell on eBAY and pay those listing and final value fees. (on average, it is 12% in fees between eBAY and paypal.

I know of BB users who have sold items and I have not seen their name on the donation list.

Frankly, some people are pathetic
