Can somebody tell me please if this Buffet Bass is made after 2002 or not?
Does it look to be the last model?
Thanks a lot.

Why not just look it up on the serial number inquiry page on Buffet's website?

As far as the way it should feel and play, yes. Though Buffet made some changes to this model that don't really affect the way it plays and hard to say which one this is. It looks from before they started using two pieces for the lower joint, which I think (if I remember correctly) was around early 2000s (maybe 2002-2003) but possibly before that. However it does have the newer and better type peg without the small screws that keep opening and rattling, which was also changed around the same time from what I remember (though maybe before). Other changes are the shape of some adjusting screw holders which are not possible to see in the photo (I think changed around 2007, but just guessing based on instruments I've seen). There are also a few other small things changed (e.g. materials) but I don't remember what and where, plus it's impossible to see in that photo anyway.

This one is the post 1999 model and it's probably newer than mine (mine's from 2000) so probably around the mid '00s somewhere.

Wasn't this the one on ebay? I think the seller just took it down. Was it a fake?

I'm not as well versed as others in the exact markers of the different 1193 echelons, but key and register layout appear to be exactly the same as mine which I bought new in 2001 (or 2002?).

Do you mean it's fake as in a false listing (and the seller has various of them such as a Loree cor anglais and an Amati contrabassoon) or the instrument itself is a copy?
The photos are of a post 2001 Buffet Prestige bass (a 1193) as these aren't copied to my knowledge (the Yamaha bass is to some extent), but as to the legitimacy and intent of the seller, that's another thing.

Lord. I just saw the ebay listing. I can only imagine the cat fight that will ensue to win that auction.

Ok -- if we can't discuss it here, can someone email me and explain why that auction is a fake?
Thanks!
