I know a few of you go to Klez Kamp.
My son, the better clarinetist in the house, is interested in going to Klez Camp this winter. For his 15th birthday he picked out a Natufle Brandwise CD (along with a flamenco guitar CD, swing CD, Eastman Wind Ensemble CD and a alternative Rock CD.)
Will he (or we) feel odd or unwelcome, as non-jews, at Klez Camp? Is it cliquey? Would he belong in the kids program, beginning adult or somewhere else. He's a pretty darn impressive musician for a teen, but quite not a prodigy. He's been playing Balkan music since age 5, though not on clarinet.

Ginny,
My guess is that he will do much better as in the adult program. There will be plenty of music for him to get involved with, and he will gain more from being treated as an adult. The staff I encountered were helpful and supportive.
No he will not feel odd or unwelcome. There were plenty of other musicians there who are not Jewish and they were made to feel at home. It is always flattering when anybody plays your music.
The only problems I heard about were ones that I expected: some of the non-musical programs assume a certain level of knowledge about Jewish culture, languages and religious practice. Non-Jews I talked with thought that these programs were valuable, but they could have gained more from them if they had understood all of the vocabulary.
Here is a URL to the summary of my activities at last year's event:
