A comparative study of the show music vs klezmer would require you to have an understanding of the modal structures of both, i.e., a lot of theory, as well as delving into history of each tune.

OTOH, delving into the history of the tunes might not be too hard. Plug them into your browser and see what comes up. If there's enough, then you may have your paper.
