A little late to chime in... around 6 years ago I bought a John Packer C clarinet and its not been too bad for my needs. Our local music store is a dealer for them and so ordered it through them. Price wise I paid around $550 CDN but they're now going for $675 CDN. I use it for playing ethnic/folk stuff and gives a nice bright, pastoral rustic sound. Mostly use it for playing Latvian and sometimes Finnish folk songs.
