Tamara, I also own one of these remarkable instruments. As I understand, they were made during the 40s and 50s as display pieces. When one walked into an instrument shop, they might examine one of these horns to get a better idea of the "inner workings" of a clarinet, which of course is silly, we all know that they have no inner workings! I have seen a few of these instruments, but wouldn't say that they are common. They were available in both A and Bb, and apparently a "matched set" of the two can bring a rather good price.
