 Confused about oboes

Pretty simple really why do some oboes have open holes and other oboes have more closed holes, and what is the difference (sorry if I sound thick am defo not an oboe player but was just curious)

open holes usually have a better sound quality as the sound can get out from more holes(applies in wood oboes)
