I found a ripped out magazine page and it had colorful instruments on it made by a company called Harmony. The problem is they all cost $249.99, Come on now we all know a clarinet or trumpet isn't that cheap! Does anybody know about this company ? Do you know if the instruments aren't junk?And what is a ABS molded case?

I was in a music shop, and wanted to get my sax re-laquered...and it would have costed me anywhere from $500-$700, so i said forget it...lol...i've never heard of anything being that cheep...maybe its a scam...if not...i'd like to know who it is. :-)

I know nothing about Harmony Clarinets.
However, I have heard stories from people buying low priced clarinets. All of them bitterly regretted they couldn't play with them and most music repair shops refuse to provide repairing service.

ABS is a type of plastic, very similar to that which your computer case is made of. On re-laquering instruments, I recently investigated having my alto sax re-laquered. My local shop said they could do it (or rather send it away to be re-done) but it would cost £400 (UK money) & would not make much difference to the value of the instrument. As the old laquer would have to be ground off first, there was potential for damage to the tone holes which would have an adverse effect on tone & intonation, and would degrade an instrument which looks shabby but plays & sounds OK.

Harmonys are something I've seen for sale from JC Penny. You can actually find good student clarinets for $250, but I have no reason to believe that Harmony instruments are suitable for use by a musician. Essentially, they sound like costly wall-hangings.

well, i didn't see it, but I know that last year, at our band camp, one of the clarinetists came with a new i think white or blue clarinet. Humber (our director) was mad as well as Will (the clarinet section leader). From what I've heard it was a couple inches too short and didn't play well at all. So I guess at least that one was a piece of crap. Hope this helps

there is nothing wrong with a coloured insturment. although play it before buying or renting. they are made mostly for the colour and not for playing anything above grade 3/4 music. and as for cheap instruments, play them before. there are deals out there at music shops, not all of them are scams.
