 dampit for oboe

I was told I needed to get a dampit for my oboe. What is a dampit, and what's it used for? Thanks!

cool little name for a "humidifier". Essentially what it does is it keeps the interior of your oboe moist, to guard against cracking...*supposedly*. You only need one if you have a wooden oboe.
