ok, i'm trying to get my scales down on my bass clarinet to try out for an all star band and for the most part i have. i have the lower octives on 7 of my major scales memorized and perfect, but the higher octives are the things i need help with. all of my altissimo notes go really sharp. i've checked things out with a tuner that i borrowed and if i pull out the neck of my bass to make the high notes in tune, my low notes are flat. and i try to lip down but i can't do it enough to make the notes still come out. how can i get them to stay in tune without lipping down so much that the notes don't come out? please help me, its very important to me.

what i think is happening from what you've said is that you're biting your notes. having your embouchure too tight isn't a good way to make the notes come out because they often end up going sharp and can lead to bad habits. i'm not saying you can be as loose as you are with clarion notes. you do need to tighten up but not a whole lot. you need air speed. air speed will help support the notes that can come out and help them become into tune. hope this helps.

depending on the level of the band, you might need to know all 12 major scales, i might check that out
