How should I finger a low Bb (Bb3) on a student model english horn? It doesn't have the holes for me to cover up.

Since Bb is the lowest note on the instrument, all the holes must be covered. If you've covered every single hole on the instrument, including all the ones operated by pads, they you will have the lowest note. If this note is B rather than Bb, then it means your instrument can't play down to Bb.

maybe you can try to find if there's 2 holes on the side of the bottom of the tube.
if there are those 2 holes, you can try covering it up by using your legs.....urm..sort of clamping it...this is how oboist play Bb without having the Bb pad..

Usually student models of English Horns have a range from Low B. That's because Low Bb isn't usually played in orchestras. I know that many pro models have a special piece to add before the bell if you have to play Low Bb, but it's more difficoult to play EH in tune (because it's about 1 inche longer).
My EH has Bb key, but the mechanism is on the bell part, like for oboes.
