is it ok to use cork grease or vaseline to lubricate a tight fit with a flute body to the foot joint? Or should lighter fluid be used? I have heard both, so I'm just looking for a second opinion. Thanks

DON'T USE LIGHTER FLUID!!!!!! That's just about the scariest thing I've ever heard in my life. Make sure it's clean and rub it with a silver polishing cloth. Don't force the joint on or it will bend and be even harder to do.

I have been told to use, wax.... is what it does is it sticks to everthing that is on the foot tennon and takes it off to give you a good clean tennon... and also it lubricates it a little bit as well. This should be cooking wax (i can't spell the technical name for it) or use a crayola crayon.

A lot of the flute players in my band will use chapstick. It might sound a little odd but it works and it won't hurt your instrument.
