I understand that the low A key is normally positioned by the octave key. But I also understand that it may alternatively be positioned in another place on the instrument. Can you decribe where precisely that might be?

On any instrument that has a low A key. I know that the Eb baritone sax can have a low A key. I thought that that was the only one, but if you know differently then I'll believe you.

the low A key is only on saxophones. and low ones, bari, bass, contrabass, i've heard someone say a tenor and low A but i've never seen one. it's not always by the octave key, some baris have it underneither the left thumb rest. maybe try searching for images on the net to solve your querry, and soprano sax's don't have a low A key. hope this helps.
