Seeing as I've never purchased one myself, I'm unsure, but I looked at one in the store, and it seems to be sort of like a plastic reed. What I recommend you do is start running now, because fibercane reeds will only give you heartache in the end. At least get store reeds made out of real cane. If you something better, try ordering professionally made reeds from some of the various sites.

They are in Montreal, and they are a major source for oboe supplies throughout Canada. The one issue is that reeds will probably run you about 22$(Can) or 16(Am) each. However, these reeds are of much higher quality than plastic, or even mass produced cane reeds.

Ye gods! Never use a fibercane reed! They seem like a good idea at first and they may sound good with a single-reed instrument, but they make an oboe sound like someone stuck a dying goose in it! They aren't worth it. Even to just use one for practice is bad. A fibercane reed requires pressure from your lips while a true cane reed requires pressure from your jaw. Odd concept, but it's true. A fibercane reed will mess with your playing and make everyone around you wish oboes were dead. And we don't want that. Oh! And yes, they are made of plastic.
