 Drei Romanzen-Schumann

I'm currently working on the three romances by Schumann (op.94), and I've heard a couple recordings (albeit not great, but) and the opening section of the 2nd movement is m.m.104. The middle section has an instruction of "etwas lebhafter". Does "Etwas Lebhafter" mean slightly faster or slightly slower? Does it even mean that at all? I had been studying the piece before having heard a recording, and I had played it faster, but when I listened to the recording they played it much slower. What would be best?

I checked out what "etwas lebhafter" means in German on a translating site, and it means "somewhat livelier". So I guess you should play it slightly faster.

I'm not sure that marking is necessarily indicating a tempo change so much as it is trying to denote a change of mood in the piece. If I were playing it, I would probably play it just a bit faster, but the real change comes from the newer, more agitated-sounding melody that's now in the relative minor key which contrasts sharply with the beautiful flowing lines in the first section of the movement. This change is accentuated by the big difference between the piano part in the A Major section vs. the piano part in the middle F# minor section.

This one is my favorite romance out of the three. I like how the middle section just comes out of nowhere; it's an appropriate and effective introduction to the new minor sound. Then when it goes back to the major section the transition is much smoother, and then you're back to that same beautiful melody. Hope you'll be able to play the whole thing without passing out. :)

The first time i really started working on it(which is about 2 weeks ago), i was playing so beautifully, for 3 bars, that is....the piece is really difficult for ur lungs, and really test your skills in articulation and finger coordination. Can someone give me more information or tips on playing the piece? Especially the 2nd movement, which i find quite difficult, and also the last bar of the first movement, which i cannot manage the transition between the E note and the low A note.
