I know that in more prossional-end flutes, there is the E-Split Key and the Gizmo Key. They only seem to have about one function... ( mind me, High E sounds actually pretty O.K. on my flute )

The Gizmo key is standard on any instrument with a B foot. It is designed to facilitate 3rd Octave C which it the Highest the flute can play (so they say) the flute acctualy has a 4th octave too. The Split-E not E-Split or High E mechanism as it is also called is used to facilitate the High E. It can be found on even student modle flute, but that is more common in other countries. In my opinion the Split-E is only a way to get money i don't see any difference in how hard or easy or even in tone when i tryed flutes with the Split-E key. My professor even agrees with me.

Well... Is your flute a marching flute? If it is, it has 3 keys instead of 2 on the foot joint... I don't have a marching flute, but I will problably play piccolo this year for marching band anyways...
