 high c on flute

When playing scales its very hard to use the gizmo key to play high C so I usually leave it out. However, my high C is nowhere near the quality of sound that my other notes are. Long tones have not helped much. How have other players gotten around using the gizmo key?

hmmm, i don't think you really can.... does it sound better when you use the gizmo key? The high C takes alot of practice to get out well.... I have been playing 3 octave C scale for about 2 years now and my high C is just now starting to sound somewhat good. My suggestion is that you should go find a private teacher... im sure that a teacher can help much more. Because it can be any number of things.. and I don't really konw how to expalin how to play that high well.... sice its not my highest point either. But im working on it ;) But something to try... play the first not below the C that sounds like you want your sound to sound like. Then look in a mirror and play that note. Look at your lips.... now play the high C with that same exact embouchre and just push your bottom lip out just a tiny bit more for this C. Play it with both the Gizmo key and without it.... looking in the mirror and making sure to keep a good embouchre. See what sounds the best. Also use a LOT of air!!

Hope this helps

My high C sounds fine without the gizmo key, but i usually use it anyway. Just keep practicing and it will get better. Use a lot of support and play LOUDLY in the top register, and your tone will improve.

i would suggest starting on either F sharp or G and practice going up to the C slowing, giving you enough time to get the gizmo key. In time you'll probably be able to get it easier. but thats only if your C sounds better with the gizmo. otherwise, it just take practice.
