Yeah, I play flute but am trying to learn to play the clarinet in a few days. Any hints on the upper register? How do you hit the two keys with your L thumb? I know it sounds dumb, but I downloaded the fingering charts in hopes to learn to play quickly. So just basic things to know the best way to get sound would be great.
Thanks

To hit the clarion(upper register) you need practise. you need fast air and a tought not tight embourchure. you'll need practise to know where your lips are supposed to be. One thing i've noticed is beginners often bite to reach those notes, you need to be open as well. Have fun and practise.

to use the octave key efficiently, you must place your left thumb at a point (i do not have a diagram to show you so you might as well look for a teacher or someone expereinced to tell you how should it be) that you use your upperleft corner (about a quarter)of your left thumb to press the octave key when needed, this is very abstract so try to find someone good to show it to you. and of course just like what Rachel said, do not and NEVER BITE!
wish you all the best! It takes a lot of practise to be able to play well, especially getting a good tone colour with the clarion register, tounging, and registral jumps.

Hello, how do you practice "throat tones?" (G-Bb) Does your C# sound airy?
