oboe + horn = embouchure problems..& flute low

hey,
i think i've posted on this before, but i need serious help. i've been playing oboe for 3 years, and i just started playing the mellophone in may. since then, i've been having problems with my low oboe notes (anything below Eb) coming out an octave higher than they're supposed to. i took it into the shop, and they said there's nothing wrong with it, so i was wondering if anyone could offer any advice. also, could anyone help me on how to get low C on flute? thanks.

those are probably the two most conflicting embouchures. One is on the smallest of the lip buzzing side (horn) and the other is on the smallest of the keeping lips still side (oboe). I personally believe that to progress anywhere with the oboe and to maintain that progress, you have to dedicate solely to that instrument. I would say that it probably doesn't have anything to do with the oboe itself but the fact that your embouchure is being messed around with.

I would have to second everything d-oboe just said. If you want to help out your oboe playing, stop playing horn.

Well, i dont know about the oboe/mellophone thing... but arn't flute and oboe conflicting embouchures as well?

For flute help, finger a low C. Then increase the air your using until you are over-blowing and the pitch is fuzzy but higher. Do that again until the pitch is higher... repeate as high as you can go, probably five times or so. Then go back down until you are correctly playing C. It's a little hard to explain so tell me if your confused, but it worked for me.

That's a good idea, musichick. I'm going to say a word about that low C also. Open up your mouth to not bring the lips or teeth too close so the air is not interfered when it goes out. Do not even tighten the embouchure; blow a little down more than straight with good breath support.
