Hi ppl,
My oboe has gone for repairs and i'm not certain on when i can get it back. It might take weeks or even more than a month before i can resume practising and playing again.
In this period of time what can i do to minimise the rate of slump in my playing when i get the chance to practise again? Has anyone here have the same experience before?

If you're a student, try borrowing one from your school. Or you can rent one from a music store.

If you have absolutely no access to any instrument at all, try to mimick what you would be doing while playing. So what I would do is first find a straw that has the same resistance, or close to that, of an oboe reed. Practice blowing through it, and moving your fingers around to appropriate fingerings. Obviously this is no substitute for the real thing, and I would recommend that you try your hardest to find an oboe to play on, but it will keep your blowing muscles in decent shape.
