hey,
i want to cont. to play the flute/ piccolo in the marching band. but i also want to play other instruments in the woodwind section.what is the best transaction from a flute to a nother woodwind instrment. or should i just stick to the flute?

I have heard that the fingering for flute and saxophone is about the same, so if you want to play another instrument, try the saxophone.

Saxaphone would be reaaly good because the fingerings are all almost the same.

Something else to consider is the option of doubling in jazz bands (if you're interested). Many professional jazz musicians play both sax and flute--this way when a jazz piece calls for flute, they don't have to "hire" another musician. So, it is a very common thing for a musician to double up on sax and flute. And yes, the fingerings are similar. The embouchure change will take some getting used to though! I wouldn't recommend practicing sax for a long time before you practice flute--plan your practice time wisely! ;-)
