Well.....i'm still trying to decide on whether to study a degree on music (oboe)or not....well i study commerce and other standard language subjects in the local high school.
It'll be at least 2 years until i go to college for further studies.....but business and music....how should i decide? Its such a big decision i can't really make up anything logical.....i love music so much! They say if u wanna do it its not impossible.....i can sacrifice my time and effort to be good at music.....i don't have any interest in any other stuff....really......i listen to 2nd mov. of tchaikovsky's symphony no.4 everyday...i don't really know why i won't get fed up with it.

well tell me....how do i judge myself? i mean how do i know if i'm good or talented enough to study music and oboe? i've seriously studied basic musical syllabus for like 3 years now....and the oboe for about a year now....
without any help of a tutor or so....HELP!

I kind of have an answer for you, but before I say that, let me tell you that I am in the same situation as you are. I am a flutist, and I'm a Sophomore. So, I have 3 years before I get out of high school and go to a college. And I am seriously thinking about majoring in flute and become a professional flutist in the future. Music is something that I never get bored of. Music may be just sound, but it is somehow very interesting. And flutes are fantastic!

To find out how good you are, I think you should look for an oboe professor. Recently that's what I thought I have to do, find a flute professor. I asked about that in my flute choir and the conductor gave me some choices. But, I don't know yet. I will be able to give an answer to her after more than a week.

Well, let's practice hard, try hard to improve and understand, and never give up to reach our wonderful musical future. :)

Dude, same situation. I'm a sophmore also. I'm sort of leaning more towards music teacher, just out of lodgic. There are sooo many flute players out there. However, I'm starting to hear a lot of improvement in my playing lately after practicing my butt off all summer. I honestly don't know, and every time I try to think about it I don't get anywhere. Talk to someone going into professional performance. I know someone who graduated last year, and I've been talking to him about it. He was explaining how broadway works and stuff, it kind of helped. Other then that, i have no idea... someone help me too...
