 Fixing A Tenor.....
Author: Carolyn

I use the school's old Vito student tenor sax for marching band, and it's worse this year that is was last year. It's hard to keep notes steady, and pads are sticking...the school doesn't have money to replace/repair it, and neither do I. Marching with my good tenor is out of the question, because my parents don't want it bent/scratched/ruined. Any do-it-yourself fixer-upper tips on making this horn last me through this last football season? (I'll be a drum major next year and won't need it)

try cleaning the pads, tightening the screws, making sure the rods are straight and the springs are in place. you need an idea of whats going on wrong before you fix. then slowly eliminate what is possibly wrong. do visual checks to make sure your right. then fix. if it's somehting major, probably best to take it to a pro, you don't want to break the instrument now. hope this helps.

something I do for sticky pads, if the dollar bill trick doesn't work, is I put a tiny amount ( a little goes a long way) of baby powder on a piece of paper about the size of the pad that is sticking and close the pad over the baby powder. Works like a charm.

If you live close 2 ne amro store, you could just put a M&R (maitnence and repair) plan on it, mine costs around $10 a month, but i send my alto in, and it comes out nice and fixed up
