Have your reeds ever got moldy? My Vandoren reeds get moldy like after a month. I keep my reeds in my clarinet case of course in a mini trasparent reed case. How do I keep them from molding? Well I'm not sure if it's mold but, it's this green stuff that gets on my reed. I know it's kind of a sick topic but, I need to know the answer.

well first of all reeds should only last about 3-4 days, when u get better you will become more picky about your sound

dear gawd. throw away your reeds after a few days, they should never last more then a week with 30 minutes of practise a day.

A month? wow...My reeds only last about a week and then then they get nasty...so I smash them. But then again I practice every day, so my situation may not be the same...

See that's weird to me. When I played saxophone long ago, I had reeds that lasted for months on end, but they never got moldy. And they got played on pretty much every day for at least an hour. Or maybe they did get moldy, and I just didn't care.  But they sounded good for all that time. I never understood how, but they did. And believe me I was just as picky then as I am now.
Then I started playing oboe, and of course now I have reeds with a half-life of oh, about 15 minutes.

I've been playing clarinet and saxes of nearly 30 years and my reeds last for months. I practice several hours a day.
Your reeds are molding because there is no air circulation in the transparent carriers. Get a reed holder that holds 2 to 4 reeds. They let air circulate and keep the tips from curling. I usually carry two 4 pack holders, but only use a favorite 2 or 3 reeds.
I have all of my students use these holders and their reeds last a long time too.
You might also want to carry alcohol pads in your case (the individual kind they use for injections). Wipe your reed off after playing and store in the type of carrier mentioned above.

I play tenor in marching band, and I've used a reed for 2 months, through 8 hour-a-day band camp, and 3-hour-a-day practices. All that, and I used one reed for two months without a problem. But to answer your origional question, rinse your reeds off with water frequently. I'm obsessive with washing my mouthpiece and reeds and stuff, and I've never gotten mold. Also let your reeds dry out before putting them away. Try blowing on them or something, like oboe reeds.

Ok First Of All This Might Be Mold BUT I KMnow How To Get Rid Of It......Ok You Need To Clean Your Reeds From Spit That Means Dry Them VERY Good Cuz YUeah But If You Do That And It Still Keeps Up You Have A Bigger Prob!
