okay,
i was just kind of confused b/c i was watching this movie of a concert, and the 1st oboist when doing vibrato, you could see his head moving.....now, is he using his head to do vibrato, or is it just from the vibrato that his head is "vibrating"?? i'm real confused, please explain...thanks

I am not sure, but some people move their head while playing because they are really getting into the music.

What orchestra? Also, how exactly was his head moving? It's hard to answer that without actually seeing the concert.

I'm laughing here...because that's what my instructor used to do. I might even do it to, but I don't realize it. His head (if this oboe player is worth his salt) isn't doing the vibrato but rather his airstream. Vibrato is, well, a subject better left alone, but essentially it's a smooth series of small crescendos and decrescendos. I don't want to go on about it, so go to this site: http://www.public.asu.edu/~schuring/main.html
It has tons of info on oboe playing, and reed making.

the man who used to run our choir used to conduct us with his head it was so funny to watch we used to crack up instead of sing
and vibrato comes from your diagphram it's all about how you conroll the air stream

Just to correct, vibrato actually originates from the larynx. The thrusts of air come from the diaphragm, in the beginning, but true (however true it can be on a wind instrument :P) singing-like vibrato comes from the larynx.
