Even though im a saxist i also play oboe in my schools middle band and we are playing "Fate of the Gods" which is an incredible, but not hard, piece of music...i like it cuase i have a solo...yay! Anyways in the begining i have dotted half notes switching back in forth from a Bb to a Cb(b) and i was wondering if there is a way to do that without playing a c or and a besides moving your fingers at the same time.

If these are just two notes and not a trill, then you need to be able to move both your right hand index finger and left hand middle finger smoothly and simultaneously. Any other fingering that we might suggest (i.e. trill fingerings) is just going to cause one of those two notes to sound out of tune and with an uncharacteristic timbre.

What I would do to practice is first determine which of your two fingers is giving you the problem; either the right hand index or the left hand middle is not lifting up in time. Do it slowly and concentrate on what your fingers are doing. Then practice moving them slowly and simultaneously back and forth until you can get it up to the appropriate speed. This is a common fingering "blip" on the oboe, and really the only way to overcome it is through diligent and thoughtful practice.

I would just like to add that you will most likely the same blipping problems going between A and C, G and Bb, F and A.
When I had this problem a while back, my teacher would have me think of my slowest finger (like the pinky or ring finger) as being the "leader." That way, I would think of getting that one on or off the fastest, and eliminating that annoying blip.

Happy oboe playing
