 concert scale

I just started playing the clarinet in the marching band. I have never played it before and I feel really lost. My band director told us we are going to start every practice with the b flat concert scale. I have been looking it up online and it might sound stupid but I am still confused as to whether it starts on b or c. Any help would really be great. Thanks.

for a Bb clarinet, the Bb concert scale starts on a C.

Now the question is Which octave, right?? Well...on our warm up, our clars start on the C below the Staff. Which is thumb*not the register key*, and the 3 fingers ont he top. and everything is natural.

ok i got help for you. Flutes are in concert pitch, key of C. The Bb Clarinet is obviously in the key of Bb. So to get a C pitch on a Bb instrument you need to go up on whole step. So if you are playing a concert Bb (Bb for flutes) you count up 1 WHOLE step and so then you play a C. Now lets say your director wants you to play a Concert F you will again count up 1 whole step and play a G concert. got it? Here is the list of concert pitches that are called and the scale you play. (concert scale-you play)C-D C#-D#(Eb), D-E, D#(usually called Eb)-F, E-F#, F-G, F#-G#, G-A, G#(usually called Ab)-A#(usually called Bb), A-B, Bb-C. Hope this made sense!

thanks for getting back to me so fast. i just have one more question. My band director said we might be going to a marching band festival. What exactly do you do at a marching band festival? I know all the bands perform and everything but they don't judge you individually do they?
