What is the difference between flute headjoints with oval or "square" and big or smale holes?
My old flute (yamaha) has got a headjoint with a quite big and a bit oval hole and my new flute (gemeinhardt) has a smaller and more sqare hole. both are solid silver.
first I liked the yamaha headjoint much better, but now I begin to like the gemeinhardt. I have the impression that itīs more difficult to play, but the sound CAN be nicer and you can make more differences between loud and quiet and so on... Is that possible? Or is it just because I always had the yamaha headjoint and the gemeinhardt is new to me? Or is the yamaha headjoint simply better than the other one?
I recently read that headjoints with oval holes are more difficult to play than sqare ones, but that is on the contrary to my impression. Or is maybe the size of the hole more important than the shape?
Another question: There are four different gemeinhardt headjoints. How can I find out which one I have? The person I bought my new flute from didnīt know that either.
I hope my english is not too bad and the text is not too confusing... ;-)

it doen't really matter what head joint you've got as long as it suites you
i've found no difference between the head joints in my flutes but i haven't really paid much attention
