How many of you have played this?? I looked @ the fingerings and realized that they were almost identical to the sax, with the exception of adding one or 2 keys. I would really wanna try this instrument. If i were to play this in a High School band, what part would it paly? I'm thinking a bass part. bass Clar, Bassoon, Tuba, or Bari sax??

this is somewhat of an obsolete instrument...and I don't think many companies regularly make them. They used to play the part of bassoon/tuba/saxophone...but those three instruments have been so much improved upon, that the use of the sarrusophone became unnecessary. Sarrusophones have come in every pitch imaginable and if you can even find one i would be impressed. For pitch, I would guess it to be in Bb, C, Eb or even D.

You would probably play the part of the bassoon. I have heard of a band that marched one of these to play the bassoon part too. interesting, aint it?

The sarrusophone was made in a range of sizes, from sopranino in Eb to contrabasses in Eb, C, and Bb, corresponding to the saxophone family. The most commonly made size was the Eb contrabass, which would be equivalent in range to a contrabass saxophone or a contrabassoon.
