 Buying an Oboe for Student
Author: mom_oboe

My daughter has been playing the oboe for about a year. We are presently renting a very basic student model and are thinking about purchasing instead of continuing to rent. I'm looking for a good quality student/intermediate model that isn't too expensive. Suggestions please. TIA

Try a Renard Fox 330. These sell for about US$2,950 and they've had a really good reputation so far.

If she likes oboe and thinks that she will continue for a while, like through high school, its worth the money to get the best oboe you can afford. Oboes are SO expensive that its really not worth the money to pay two thousand or so on a decent, "ok" model and then have to buy another couple thousand upgrade in a few years. wwbw.com has some good deals, and I agree, Fox are good. I think the best thing to do in your case is to buy the most inexpensive WOOD oboe that you can find. Wood helps the tone SOOOOO much. Hope that helps, and once you find one tell me what it is! Good luck!
